Helping Churches Prepare for Extreme Weather

Is your congregation prepared for the worst havoc severe weather can wreak?

Storms, tornados, floods, and other extreme weather can strike suddenly and unexpectedly. The South and Midwest took tragic beatings this spring, and yesterday (June 1) marked the first day of hurricane season. That's why every church should have a disaster preparedness and response plan.

Preparing for the when -- not if -- will encourage your church to take the risks seriously. And if the unlikely becomes a reality, your church community will be grateful that its leaders took the planning process seriously. For more tips on preparing your church for the worst, read our free article "Simple Ways to Deal with Disaster."

Consider adding social media strategies to your disaster response plan, too. Jenni Catron, contributing editor for the site www.GiftedforLeadership.com, tells her story about how she used Twitter to mobilize volunteers from her church when her community was engulfed by floodwaters.
